Prior to Our Involvement

The earthquake in 2001 affected Gujarat, damaging local building structures including schools and homes. Many poor tribal families could not afford to rebuild their homes and send their children to school.

Our Impact

We have supported the reconstruction of a residential hostel which provides the Adivasi (tribal) children of the Dang area full residential care so that they can live in close proximity to receive education in the town. This is a joint project with Lions Club of Seven Kings; supported by the Milap Mandal, Harrow.

There are two sites, one for boys and one for girls, the boys hostel was completed in 2015 and we aim to complete the new girls hostel in 2018. The hostels provide residence, dining, library and ICT facilities as well as sport.

“I visited the hostel prior to the construction of the new building. The conditions the boys were staying in were terrible. I am so glad an organisation such as CARE has come in to provide these much needed facilities. It will truly make a difference to the lives of these children.”
