Ashish Patani: Why I am climbing Mount Kilimanjaro

Ashish PataniMy name is Ashish Patani and in September this year, I have set myself a huge challenge – to climb up the highest free-standing mountain in the world, rising 19,340 feet above sea level, otherwise known as …Kilimanjaro!

I was inspired to take on this challenge after hearing about the wonderful work CAREducation does for helping make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged and naturally challenged children around the world, through education.

For me education has always been a driver for change and a force for good in a world with many problems and conflicts, by inspiring the next generation.

In 2012, I helped organised a major Fair on Education as part of my local Community, Oshwal and we explored many issues, from nursery education to higher education as well as special needs education. We also held debates with Kenyan students on what education meant for them. It was truly inspiring to see how a good education can real open a child’s eye to see endless possibilities.

So when I heard about CAREducation’s great work, I jumped on-board for the trek. It will be hard work and something which I haven’t done before, but I’m looking forward to it. The whole CAREducation team has been a great support and one thing which I really appreciated was knowing that CAREducation doesn’t take any administration costs from donations and thus 100% of donations go towards helping disadvantaged children through education. This was refreshing to hear and further encouraged me to work hard for the trek and raise funds to help children in India and Kenya.

I’ll try and post more blogs soon to update everyone on my progress but in the meantime, I would like to request you to help me with the fundraising, by donating whatever you can….and remember to Gift Aid your donations.
