“I hate school…”
“Why do we have to learn this…”
“When will I use this in life…”
“I can’t be bothered to go to school…”
“I don’t want to learn this…”
“I hate carrying my books everyday…”
These are NOT first world problems.
Many children in this world are not as fortunate as the likes of you and me. An education to some is unheard of. We are lucky enough to have free education readily available to us. Yet we still complain and take it for granted.
We at CARE believe that every child should have the chance to go to school. But it’s not just about getting them into the classroom. It’s also about making sure they are well taught and that what they learn actually improves their opportunities in life. An education is the foundation to a child’s life.
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”
More than 57 million children around the world do not go to primary school. Around 250 million children cannot read or count, even though they have spent four years in school.
CARE has set up numerous centres in India and Africa to give underprivileged and disabled children a fighting chance for an education and ultimately a future. We support and aim to meet the second MDG (Millenium Development Goals) – ‘Ensure that, by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling’.
One of the most important things is to raise awareness of the facts. Many people are unaware of the seriousness of the problem. The more people we make aware the more we have a chance to combat the issue. Let’s act together and lets make a difference!
