35 British youths go to Africa, climb Mount Kilimanjaro to help African children
Hoping to raise more than £40,000 for underprivileged children in Africa, 35 members of “CARE Youth” have taken on the challenge of a lifetime to climb the highest freestanding mountain in the world – Mount Kilimanjaro.
CARE Youth are a group of driven young individuals with a passion to give something back. Starting from a group of 8, the group has grown to more than 35, all working together as a team to raise funds and awareness for CAREducation Trust (www.CAREducation.org), a charity that works to better the lives of underprivileged children through education.
Branded the “Rickshawalas”, 2012 brought about CARE Youth’s initial fundraising adventure, seeing members of the team drive auto-rickshaws for 1800 km throughout India, raising £30,000 for the charity.
2013 has brought about “CARE Trek”, a new challenge for the team with the highest fundraising target to date. Trekking for over six days at a final altitude of 6200m will be a real test of determination for the team with the oxygen levels equivalent of losing one of your lungs!
CARE Youth’s challenges are all planned, organised and undertaken by members of the team, allowing the team members to flourish in their talents and work together as a team.
In line with the charities zero expense ethos, all the personal costs are borne by the participants, ensuring that all raised funds go directly to CAREducation Trust.
